This is no surprise to anyone. As we have known for several months, Google is about to launch a new Android TV dongle in the market. Internally named “Google Sabrina”, the dongle is powered by the Amlogic S905X2 SoC and is compatible with 4K, HDR 10 and Dolby Vision at 60fps. The HDMI switch is accompanied by a dedicated remote control.
Google abandons ‘Android TV’ name, confirmed
After months of leaks, “Google Sabrina” has emerged. List of target stores, reports from Android Police reporter Artem Russakovski’s Twitter account. In the database, the dongle is named “Chromecast with Google TV” or “Chromecast with Google TV” in French. The brand ignores the phrase “Android TV”.
As several rumors suggest, Google has decided to rename the operating system for connected televisions by the end of the year. The Mountain View firm wants to gradually abandon the “Android” brand. Since 2012, word has been slowly disappearing from Google’s ecosystem. For example, Android Market became Google Play Store and Wear OS and replaced Android Wear.
Also, the leak confirms Chromecast selling price. The dongle will be marketed at Target priced at $49.99. As expected, it will be cheaper than the Chromecast Ultra. In the United States, the accessory actually retails for $69. Finally, Target lists three different colors: Rock Candy, Summer Melon, and Summer Blue.
Google is expected to unveil its new Chromecast during its presentation conference dedicated to the new Pixels, Pixel 5 and 5G compatible Pixel 4a.
