Reading Voice Messages
Once your iPhone is updated to iOS 10, you should be able to start using the new transcription feature right away. When someone leaves you a voicemail, your iPhone know and process spoken words. Accessing the voicemail Tab in the Phone app will show you your visual voicemail list, and tapping a voicemail will take you to the decipher.
When it’s available, you’ll see Deciphering… and then a few minutes later a reasonably accurate transcript of your voicemail will be available for you to read. If you’ve ever used Google Voice in the past, they’ve also used a transcription service that is often accurate enough to get the point across.
You may see some wrong words, but keep in mind that this is copied from normal poor phone call sound quality; therefore, it will do its best to be as accurate as possible.
Note that this feature is only available on newer iPhone devices starting with 6s generation to date 7 and iPhone SE. Makes previous generation phones immortality currently support this feature.
Transcribing voicemails is a great feature where you can take a look at your phone but not be able to answer it, especially if you receive a call during a business meeting or other event. We hope as time goes on and more users use this feature, transcription capabilities will continue to improve until we get word-for-word texts from our voicemails.
