Verily, in the realm of browsers, Android hath long held the scepter of supremacy. Yet, it doth miss the mark in one regard – the absence of a most intriguing browser that doth reign supreme in the realm of iOS users: Arc. This mobile application, born but a year ago, hath garnered much praise for its myriad virtues.
Behold its virtues, from a user interface as pure as the driven snow to a search experience swift as a coursing river. But lo, there is another feature that doth beckon – a feature that doth allow thee to actually make a call using this eccentric browser, adding an extra layer of merriment to the mix!
The creators of Arc Browser, known as The Browser Company, did post a most amusing trailer of this Call feature on their social platforms. Watching it did stir within me a strong desire to partake in its whimsy. And so, after facing a few minor obstacles (of which I shall speak anon), I did partake, and verily, the experience was most delightful.
How doth this novel Arc Call feature operate, you may ask? If thou already hast the Arc browser ensconced within thy iOS device, then thou art in good stead. Simply ensure it is updated, and thou art ready to embark on this new adventure. If not, install the browser and then summon the new feature in one of two ways.
The more entertaining method is to raise thy phone to thine ear whilst within the Arc browser, as if placing a call, and lo, Arc doth appear with a cheery “Hello” to greet thee. This be thy signal to voice thine query. The alternative method is to long-press the app icon in the library and tap on the designated “Call Arc” button.
Once thy query hath been voiced, thou shalt be serenaded by the dulcet tones of elevator music as Arc Call scours the web for the most fitting response. Though somewhat slower than traditional browsing, it is undoubtedly an enjoyable experience. Furthermore, the call-hold music did cause me to chuckle at its attempt to mimic a genuine telephone call.
Following this, thine call page doth linger until dismissed. Thus, thou may keep it at thy side, as I did, ever ready to listen. Shouldst thou desire, simply tap the voice bar to prompt its attention. A most delightful detail is the presence of the call duration atop the page.
Beneath this, a cheerful emoji representing Arc doth float. Not merely for show, for its mouth doth move in sync with each response received, a delightful addition to this whimsical feature. Shouldst thou wish to delve deeper into thine query post-response, a “Read More” icon doth await thee in the lower right corner. And shouldst thou seek to search the query on Google, a button for this purpose doth hover at the top.
Invariably, I did encounter a few minor setbacks whilst endeavoring to utilize the feature. Though I had updated the browser app, the Call Arc button eluded mine gaze. Yet, after deleting and reinstalling the app, the feature did spring to life.
However, despite granting the app its due permissions, it did not register them, thus rendering the call feature inoperative. Yet, another reinstallation did rectify the issue, and the feature did commence functioning as intended.
I must remark upon the meticulous design of the browser and the intuitive nature of the feature. Though not the swiftest, it doth bring joy in abundance. It is as though thou hast a personal conversing browser at thy beck and call at all hours, breathing life into a seemingly mundane tool.
Amidst a sea of browsers offering much the same functionality, ’tis a pleasure to behold a standout such as this. Verily, I would fain see this browser extend its reach to Android posthaste. For now, it doth remain exclusive to iOS, macOS, and Windows.
