YouTube: American justice powers Google to block videos targeting the youngest

Despite its status as an almost universal streaming platform, YouTube is still a private company.is a subsidiary of Google, one of the most powerful companies in the world. Therefore, the First Amendment to the US Constitution, which protects the right to speech and the press, only applies if YouTube (and by extension Google) asks for it. Therefore, the American firm has the right to manage access to the content of its platform as it sees fit.

It’s not us, it’s American justice. The San Francisco Court of Appeals filed suit in favor of Google last week in a lawsuit between the Mountain View firm and PragerU, a media affiliated with the conservative party, according to information reported by the AFP agency. Second, he accuses Google of arbitrarily limiting access to videos he posts on YouTube. He believes that similar issues covered by liberal media are not victims of the same treatment. Nearly 200 videos are only accessible in restricted modeprevents younger viewers from viewing them without parental consent.

PragerU therefore sued Google for violating the First Amendment to the US Constitution. The first complaint was made in 2017. In the first place, the media was dismissed. Then in the second case, the California Court of Appeals for the First Amendment only valid for public forums and not special services. Google has the legal right to manage content as it is criminally liable for what it hosts.

Contacting AFP following the publication of the court order, a YouTube spokesperson said that Google does not discriminate politically and that products are developed “in a way that ignores political leanings”. Of course, PragerU is not happy with this result, believing that the American giants are censoring conservative ideas. A petition has been opened on the media site to unlock access to its content.
