WhatsApp will finally let you edit your messages after you send them

whatsapp edit button

Despite its many advantages over its competitors, WhatsApp lacks a feature that is as common as it is necessary: the ability to modify messages after sending. Discord, Skype, Slack, Telegram: they all let you fix that nasty typo that went unnoticed before you hit send. But it’s not the users’ fault for wanting this option, and they’ve been doing it for years.

Especially since WhatsApp is already showing signs of progress on the project. Five years ago, in 2017, this functionality was already included in a beta version. But for some reason that remains difficult to explain, it never made it to the general public version of the messaging. Therefore, there is no choice but to send a second message with an asterisk or even delete the message containing the irreparable error.

WhatsApp is working on an Edit button for sent messages

Fortunately, this is about to change. At least let’s hope so, because things are looking pretty promising. Indeed, the Change button is finally reappearing in the WhatsApp beta. To use it, nothing could be simpler than this: As you can see in the screenshot above, just press and hold the message for a few minutes to edit it for the drop-down menu containing the famous button to appear.

So keep in mind that this is still only a beta option and it may take some time before it’s available to all users; If it’s really going to happen. Given WhatsApp’s desire to offer expected features to its users, such as reactions to messages, we can still reasonably rely on it. So be patient, it’s probably just a matter of time.
