WhatsApp issues official notice by CNIL for sharing data with Facebook

An official notice was served on WhatsApp by the National Commission on Information Processing and Freedoms (CNIL) on December 18, 2017. Sharing user data illegally with FacebookBought in 2014. CNIL orders WhatsApp to comply with French law.

WhatsApp shares our data with Facebook

WhatsApp transfers information such as our phone numbers or usage patterns to its parent company without user consent and where they can do nothing about it. In its official statement, the CNIL requires: WhatsApp gets user permission to have their data sent to Facebook. However, the positive side for WhatsApp was that it did not hide the situation at all costs, as it was explained in its terms of use and privacy policy.

However, CNIL estimates that WhatsApp “has no legal basis for the processing performed”. The latter regrets that WhatsApp refuses to cooperate, which will allow you to record voice messages without holding your finger. It considers that it should be subject only to United States legislation and is not liable to France. There are currently no sanctions in sight, but that could happen if Facebook and WhatsApp don’t take action within a month from December 18, 2017.

WhatsApp received an update in early December with 6 new features, including emojis, improved location sharing and other options. We’re still looking forward to YouTube videos that can be watched directly from chat, and recently we’ve been taking advantage of the ability to delete 7-day messages.
