Twitter is ending Fleets, its Instagram Stories-inspired function

fleets

Since Snapchat launched Stories a few years ago, every app like Instagram, Facebook or Twitter has jumped on board. The latter launched Fleets last year, but decided to finally delete them today due to lack of interest among users. In a tweet followed by a blog note, the social network explains that Fleets never found its target audience. For this reason, They will withdraw from August 3. You can continue using them until then.

Twitter ends its message with a playful “Sorry or nothing,” thus taking into account complaints from some users who found them intrusive. But the network says it’s working on “new things” and improving existing features. The fleets will thus last less than a year, because they were introduced only nine months ago. However, note that some users have been able to use them in beta since March 2020. This is still too short for such a prominent feature.

Fleets failed

Fleets allow you to create “Stories” like on Snapchat or Instagram. Broadcasts with a lifespan of 24 hours, They allow you to display images, tweets or simple text. Other users can watch them and even react live.

A nice feature on paper, but this bothers many people. In fact, Fleets automatically appear at the top of your Timeline, right above the most recent tweets. They are available on both iOS and Android and you are bound to see them. It’s not even impossible that you pressed it by mistake anyway. Best of all, you can’t hide them. You have Fleets whether you like it or not.

That’s it for now, because it will be finished in two weeks. Fans of this feature (there are some) will therefore only have tears in their eyes.
