Social media exposes us all to trolls, harassers, and immoral people. On Twitter, anyone can interact with anyone virtually (except for locked or blocked accounts). The Californian platform wants to strike a strong blow in the fight against toxic exchanges with a new functionality: Safe mode.
This Security mode needs to be enabled in the settings and therefore will not be used by default. Allows you to block automatically and for seven days Troll accounts so they don’t interrupt your discussions. Accounts targeted for Twitter are those that “use offensive language, such as insults or hate speech” or “repeatedly post messages in tweet replies or mentions.” Once the security mode is activated, you will theoretically not be informed about the people you blocked for a week.
Twitter will automatically block harassers
Of course there are limits. So it calculates Those you follow or follow you cannot be blocked in this way, The same goes for people you don’t follow but interact with regularly. Once you enable security mode, you will be sent reports every seven days telling you what happened and how many accounts were blocked. You will be able to adjust the time you spend in this mode depending on whether you want to protect yourself temporarily or permanently.
Twitter states that this feature is not yet final and there may be small things to improve. That’s why the platform relies on beta testers for this. For now, only a few users can enable Security mode on the web version, as well as on Android and iOS. To benefit from this, you also need to use Twitter in English.
It’s a new feature that aims to limit harassment, which has been one of the network’s biggest problems for years. It’s also undergoing massive development right now, especially with the arrival of paid features.
