Transfer Call Logs and SMS from iPhone to Android

Switching from iPhone to Android? One of the problems you will encounter during the process is to transfer call logs and SMS from iPhone to Android. How did you do this? iMessage is not available on Android and none of the popular cloud storage apps will work for call logs and messages.

Fortunately, there is another way and it is not that difficult. By the end of this guide you will be able to export both call logs and messages to your Android phone. All you need is a computer (Windows or macOS) and your phones.

Let’s start.

Take a Backup on Your Computer

I’ll be using my Windows 10 computer for this guide, but you can also use macOS. Make a backup of your iPhone on the computer. Windows users will use iTunes for the process. You will find the download link below.

Stage 1: After installing the app, launch it and sign in with your Apple ID, which is the same as on your iPhone. Note that the backup must be offline and unencrypted. As you know, encrypted data cannot be read and we want to be able to read the data.

Step 2: Click the phone icon next to the menu bar.

Stage 3: Under the Summary tab, under the Backup heading, make sure to select This PC and deselect Encrypt local backup. Click the Backup Now button.

You should be able to see the backup process at the top next to the menu bar. Wait for it to complete.

2. Transfer Backup to Android

Here is the folder path of the iPhone backup you just created.

Windows:

C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

If you installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store, follow this path instead.

C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Apple\MobileSync\Backup

Mac OS:

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

Stage 1: You need to find the following files containing your call logs and messages and copy these files to the download or root folder of your Android phone.

Filename for messages: ‘3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28’ in 3d folder.

Filename for call logs: ‘5a4935c78a5255723f707230a451d79c540d2741’ in folder 5a.

3. Import Backup

The next step involves downloading an app called iSMS2droid from the Play Store. It is completely free and ads are not annoying. No in-app purchases needed either. This app will help us read data from file and write/extract to Android phone and messages app.

Stage 1: Launch the app and tap Import Messages. You will need to grant the necessary permissions, including that you agree to make it the default messaging app.

Step 2: To start the restore process, select the message backup file you just saved on the phone in the following pop-up window.

Once complete, repeat the same process for the call logs by selecting the Import Call Log button and the call log file.

After restoring messages and call logs from Android to iPhone, iSMS2droid will automatically prompt you to revert to your default or previous SMS app. You can also always do this from Settings.

Importing messages and call logs may take some time. It depends on the number of messages, size, processing speed of your phone, etc. will depend. If you have a lot of phones, plug your phone into a charging cable and leave it overnight. Everything should be ready when you wake up the next morning.

You are free to uninstall the iSMS2droid app after the import is complete. This app has no other uses. It has served its purpose.
