Top 11 Realme UI Tips and Tricks to Use Like a Pro

Realme has been running Color OS on top of Android OS on its devices since its debut in 2018. While Realme devices have always been warmly received by users and reviewers, they have always had a mixed experience with Realme’s takeover of the Android operating system. Meanwhile, early adopters are always looking for Realme UI tips and tricks to make the most of it.

In late 2019, Realme announced Color OS-based Realme UI to compete with Xiaomi’s rivals like Redmi and POCO. With Realme UI, the company aims to bridge the gap between stock Android and its custom UI with a round icon and white theme.

Fortunately, Realme isn’t limiting the rollout of the Realme UI to just new devices. The company has updated most of its past portfolio to the Android 10-based Realme UI.

In this post, we will talk about the top eleven (11) Realme UI tips and tricks to use it like a pro. Realme UI is based on Color OS 7.0, so there are similarities between the two in terms of functionality. Realme, however, has done a good job of adding its touches. Lets start.

1. Full Screen Gestures

With the release of Android 10, Realme adapted Google’s default full-screen gestures to its UI. They work as expected. Swipe up from the bottom to go home, swipe up and hold to reveal the multitasking menu, and swipe from either side to go back in an app.

They are hidden under the settings menu. Open Settings > Convenience tools > Navigation Buttons and select swipe gestures.

While Realme has done a good job with gestures, they still don’t match the iOS app.

2. Dark Theme

Here you will see the benefit of using an OEM UI compared to stock Android. Google’s dark theme is implemented within apps that support Android 10 dark theme APIs. Realme’s dark mode forces third-party apps to apply the dark theme.

Open Device Settings, go to Display and turn on dark theme. It will push the dark theme everywhere.

3. Live Wallpapers

This is not new to the Android world. Samsung and LG used to offer live wallpapers in the past, but these were too extreme and used to drain the device’s battery. Realme’s approach is better here.

The included wallpapers are lively but minimal and look pretty good. Since the Realme UI update on my Realme X, I’ve been using them on my device and so far I haven’t noticed any major drain on the battery.

4. Tons of Customization Options

Following in the footsteps of Color OS, Realme UI comes with lots of customization options. For example, you can change the home screen mode, the layout of the apps, add different effects, swipe down gestures and more.

Realme has added Smart Assistant functionality to the side drawer. They are mostly advertisements from Realme store apps and games.

There are two useful additions, though. Quick functions and Favorite contacts. Quick functions give you access to useful tools like browser, translator, Google search or any app with just one swipe.

5. Icon Autofill

This is useful for iOS wannabes. With a single tap, you can arrange randomly placed app icons in the appropriate order. Tap and hold the home screen and dive into the settings. Turn on Icon Autofill to rearrange icons.

6. App Clone

Realme borrowed App Clone feature from Color OS. He did a better job than the majority there. The functionality is not limited to social apps like WhatsApp, Telegram or Facebook. You can also clone lifestyle and food ordering apps like Amazon, Swiggy, and Flipkart.

Open Device Settings and go to App Cloner. Here you will see the list of apps that you can clone on the device. I would love to see something like Samsung’s Secure Folder in future Realme updates.

7. Theme Store

The Theme Store is the heart of the Realme UI experience. You can apply new wallpapers, color accents, fonts and more with a single tap. Some may find it flashy, but the Theme store is extremely popular in markets like India and China.

Go to Device Settings and open Theme store. Browse the themes, choose your favorite and watch the preview. Tap the download button to apply the change.

8. Realme Sidebar

Realme has added the sidebar shortcut to access the most used apps, games and tools from the side menu. It is similar to the Samsung Edge sidebar. Open Realme Setting and go to Convenience tools > Smart Sidebar menu and enable the option.

You can change the transparency of the menu and even change its position. Swipe left and open the menu. You can tap the edit button to change the tools of the sidebar menu. I use it to take screenshots and screen recordings.

9. Smart Driving

This is helpful for those who drive frequently for routine work. When activated, Intelligent Driving switches to Do Not Disturb mode and makes the necessary changes for a comfortable driving experience.

You can block an incoming call from any of the Smart Driving Settings, automatically send a message after a rejected call, block in-app audio and video calls, and even block banner notifications.

You can activate the Smart Driving mode from the notification toggles or from the Settings > Smart Services > Smart Driving menu.

10. Lock screen Journal

This is a hit and miss for me. You can enable Lock screen magazine to display stunning images on lock screen. Go to Settings > Home screen > and go to Lock Screen Magazine. I turned it off, but if you’re a fan, turn the toggle on.

11. Utility Ball

I always use it. It makes the floating ball on the screen navigate the UI. Open Settings > Convenience Tools > Utility Ball and turn the option on.

There are two options. You can use gesture actions or tap the menu. The touch menu opens useful shortcuts for locking screen, back, screenshot and home screen. You can access the homepage, notification menu, etc. via gesture operation, tap, double tap and tap and hold. gives you access.

Use Realme UI Like a Pro

Realme has done a commendable job with the first interaction of the UI over Android. Going forward, I hope to see a more Oxygen OS-like approach with a closer approach to the stock Android look and feel. That said, I’m looking forward to seeing how Realme takes this further with future updates.
