Spotify users on Android will have a little surprise when they update their app. In version 8.5, Spotify removed its little widget. And we don’t touch widgets in the Android world!
Regulars of Google OS have often cited this customization mode as one of its biggest advantages over iOS. Thanks to them, each smartphone has a unique and personalized interface. In addition, these widgets are full of interesting features that make daily use easier. This was the case with Spotify, which made it possible to control music listening in an instant.
Spotify suggests toggling through the notification bar
The reasons for this choice are unknown. Spotify simply explains it users will be able to jump directly from the notification bar here a control panel similar to the famous widget appears.
Along with the same playback features, you can also easily access information about what is playing via Spotify’s playback notification and the device’s lock screen.
This consolation prize doesn’t seem to reach fans of the little widget. Negative comments on social media are increasing sometimes to be offended, sometimes to ask for an explanation.
There is an area on the platform’s site where users can suggest improvement ideas with a voting system. Request to restore widget registered 5689 votes at the time of this writing. For the most impatient, reverting to the previous version can be a solution, even if it probably causes some stability issues.
