Every new Galaxy phone comes with a free month of Premium Care. However, once that expires, it’s automatically canceled unless you agree to pay $11.99 per month for protection. It’s like insurance, but it has more to offer. Initially, your phone has a standard limited 1-year warranty. Samsung Premium Care extends that to 2 years and gives you tons of added benefits, aside from peace of mind.
Premium Care comes with same-day screen repairs, hand-delivered replacements in some regions, not to mention low-downtime and in-home tech support visits. It basically covers all kinds of situations. I think Premium Care is definitely worth it.
Samsung Premium Care and Insurance Plans
When it comes to purchasing smartphone insurance or an extended warranty, there are many things you will want to consider. Some of these include how many replacement devices you can get per year, whether the plan covers loss or theft, and be very careful with downtime.

As you can see above, Samsung’s Premium Care is one of the most affordable. While the cost of almost every insurance plan is pretty much the same each month, the deductible can vary significantly. This is the amount you actually have to spend (out of pocket) to buy a new one. It’s worth noting that all family plans, like Verizon’s $50 total plan, can get discounts from carriers here in 2020.
If you crack your Galaxy Note 10’s screen and have Premium Care, you’ll spend $12 that month to get insurance and then just $99 to replace your phone in less than a day. This costs $111 to get your phone up and running in a few hours.
Note that not every city does same-day repairs. And if they don’t, Samsung will deliver your replacement overnight. In other words, you only have to deal with screen cracks or stay without a phone for a day at most.
That said, the same screen replacement is $275 off carriers like T-Mobile and around $200 off AT&T or Sprint. Also, with carriers you mail your phone and wait for an exchange that no one wants to do. Our phones are an invaluable tool that we do not want to give up for 3-4 days, if not anymore. I once waited 13 days for a Verizon replacement and thought my world was over – no phone.
However, carriers offer replacements for loss or theft. That’s why Samsung Premium Care is affordable if you break your phone, but insurance is a better option if you lose it.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that SquareTrade is also a pretty good option. It is inexpensive, an affordable $99 out-of-pocket, although they only allow one replacement per year. If you have a lot of accidents, we recommend Samsung Premium Care.

I recently shattered my Galaxy S9+ while jogging in the park one Monday morning. It somehow fell out of my pocket at full speed and was flushed. Sadness. Also, Samsung provides a return label and packaging for you to easily return your damaged phone to them. Honestly, this was the easiest exchange I’ve ever dealt with and made me thankful that I signed up for Premium Care. I don’t have a single complaint.
In addition, Samsung is now UBreakiFixWhich have retail stores All over the United States. Depending on the situation, you may be able to take your Samsung Premium Care covered phone to a UbreakiFix store and have minor repairs done within the same day instead of a completely new phone. This takes the hassle out of transferring all your data.

In closing, keep in mind that most carriers actually offer several different layers of protection. So while you can get a cheaper plan from Sprint or Verizon, it’s not that useful. Or, you can get insurance from Best Buy’s Geek Squad for just $7.99 a month with no loss or theft coverage, or $11 a month with it.
While you can find great options like Verizon Total Mobile Protection, it’s not an option for everyone. Plus, I’m worried it won’t be water resistant anymore and these cheap $29 replacement screens will be the same quality as Samsung repair.
Basically, at the end of the day, you’re only going to want to pay attention to small details, fine print, and know exactly what you want or need.
If you’re not worried about loss or theft, go with Samsung Premium Care or Geek Squad. If you’re looking to buy insurance from a carrier, Verizon has the best price of the big four, especially since they now offer $29 screen replacement or coverage for the entire family.
