Samsung Pay Arrives for Chase, Mastercard and More

Since its launch earlier this year, Samsung Pay has only been available to certain banks, credit cards, and those with a VISA or AMEX card. However, the most accepted wireless mobile payment solution just got better today, with Samsung adding support for eight banks or Credit Unions, Chase, Mastercard and more.

Similar to Apple Pay or Android Pay, those who own any of Samsung’s flagship smartphones released in 2015 can only pay for items in the United States using their smartphone. Samsung Pay works in 95% of all stores and payment terminals, instead of just a few select locations like Apple Pay.

Apple and Android Pay only work with NFC and require stores to have newly updated payment terminals in order for users to pay wirelessly with their smartphones. Samsung Pay uses NFC, but is also backward compatible with older swipe-based magnetic terminals in the United States. It is the best wireless payment system, but it was supposed to support more banks and now it does.

At launch, Samsung Pay only worked on a few carriers in the United States and only 3-4 banks like Bank of America or those with VISA cards. No one with a different bank, Mastercard or any other has been able to use this impressive new technology. Until now.

However, last month Samsung Pay finally launched on Verizon Wireless and is available on all four major carriers in the United States. Updates have been released that allow those who own the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, and even Galaxy S6 Active all to use Samsung Pay.

The only problem was that most Samsung smartphone owners did not have a supported debit or credit card. Below is an image of pre-supported banks or cards with not many options.

Today though, Samsung announced Support for 8 banks as well as Chase and Mastercard. Opening Samsung Pay to millions of users in the United States.

As of this morning, Samsung Pay will now work with MasterCard and Chase Bank. This includes Chase credit, debit and Liquid cards. Mastercard is also supported by new banks such as Citizens Equity First Credit Union, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, Security Service Federal Credit Union, State Workers’ Credit Union, SunTrust and Virginia Credit Union. Samsung Pay now also supports Navy Federal Credit Union Visa credit and debit cards.

“With the expanded support of eight additional issuers, including Chase and SunTrust, we look forward to further building momentum around Samsung Pay,” said Injong Rhee, Samsung Electronics EVP, Global Head of Samsung Pay.

Samsung Pay works in more places than any other mobile payment standard available today, and now supports even more debits and cards. But the company doesn’t stop there and has confirmed that they will continue to add more banks and trusted partners in the coming weeks and before the end of the year.

If you haven’t tried Samsung Pay yet, click the how-to at the top of the page, install it, and try it today. With more support than ever before, Samsung Pay paves the way for mobile payments in the United States. Stay tuned for more details on supported add-on cards and banks in the near future.
