The brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 is rumored for a very early 2016 release date and that means leaks, rumors and videos are starting to surface. We’ve continued to see reports about the size over the past few weeks, and today a brand new Galaxy S7 Plus video has arrived, detailing the final design, features and more.
Early Galaxy S7 rumors first surfaced in September, just weeks after the launch of the new Galaxy Note 5. We’ve continued to see small bits of information since then, and the latest news shows a release date towards the end of February. If that’s the case, the leaked video below might be pretty accurate.
Famous Twitter leaker @Onleaks, who is almost 100% accurate with Google’s new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P designs, is already back with videos describing the latest looks for the Galaxy S7. To be more specific, it’s the larger Galaxy S7 Plus, which should have the same design only with a bigger screen. More details and videos on both can be found below.
Shown above is a video based on leaked schematics or “blueprints” and final dimensions of the Galaxy S7 Plus, which has reportedly been sent to case makers to start building cases for Samsung’s new phones. These give buyers a good idea of what to expect, but do not reveal any final details or materials.
Similar videos showed the Nexus 6P long before its launch, but showed that the rear camera bump was quite large, which wasn’t the case after the phone was released. So they were correct, but the finished product could have changed a bit and looked cleaner. That said, this could be an extremely accurate prediction of what’s coming from Samsung later this year.
According to @Onleaks and UswitchThe Samsung Galaxy S7 will have a similar 5.1-inch or 5.2-inch display and a design that looks almost identical to last year. The leak reveals a standard micro USB charging port instead of USB Type-C, the same camera placement, speaker grilles and more. However, they also confirmed that there is no micro SD slot for storage expansion, further confirming the rumors of a 6-inch Galaxy S7 Plus.
Notable changes are rounded edges in an aluminum or metal design, a thinner and taller rectangular hardware home button. Not to mention a slimmer design than last year’s model, which comes in at roughly 7.2mm thin. We also see the same protruding camera lens that is said to feature a brand new 20-megapixel “BRITECELL” camera sensor technology.
So far we don’t have a lot of details on the Samsung Galaxy S7, but if this report is true, it would be good or bad news that there aren’t any major changes depending on what buyers are interested in. The biggest problem is probably this. Lack of a micro SD slot for storage expansion. The Galaxy S6 was the first year Samsung removed a feature that had been complained about since its release. However, the side-shifted placement of the SIM slot could be to provide more space to house a SIM slot and a micro SD together, similar to what’s found on the new Moto X.
For now, we’re hearing rumors of an announcement in late February, with a mid-March release date that will be the earliest Galaxy S release in history. If true, expect many more details to emerge for the rest of the month and by January of 2016. We could see a regular Galaxy S7 and a massive 6-inch Galaxy S7 Plus arriving early next year.
