It was $199 last year with a new 2-year contract, but AT&T no longer offers them. So users can buy directly from June 10 or make monthly payments to get the latest and greatest.
Galaxy S7 Active Features and Features
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is essentially the same great phone as the Galaxy S7, but with a few notable additions. Of course the phone doesn’t look all that sleek or premium, but it’s built to last with Samsung’s first Shatter-resistant display similar to the DROID Turbo 2.
On the front of the Active are three dedicated hardware buttons compared to the home button and touch keys found on other Galaxy smartphones. This time, users get the same fingerprint scanner for added security as well as the durability the Active series is known for. It’s a little longer than the regular Galaxy S7 and a little thicker to fit that huge battery inside.
With a 4,000mAh battery, this phone can outlast any Galaxy smartphone to date, and can be fully charged in less than 2 hours using Quick Charge 2.0 technology, getting to 0-50% in just 30-35 minutes.
Galaxy S7 Active Waterproof and Unbreakable Display
The Galaxy S7 “Active” is built around the idea of being extremely durable or rugged. Most phones that claim to be water resistant have an IP67 rating; this basically means it can withstand being submerged in several feet of water for up to 10 minutes, but it is often water-damaged. This is not the case here.
Like the regular S7, AT&T’s Galaxy S7 Active can be fully submerged in approximately 5 feet of water for 30 minutes. It is fully IP68 certified for dust, water and drop protection. There’s also an additional aluminum ring around the bezel and a new display technology to provide drop protection.
Samsung and AT&T claim this is Samsung’s first phone with an “unbreakable” display. So no matter how hard or dropped from a height, it will not break. However, the screen can be scratched more easily than some, as the screen is most likely made of some type of plastic, rather than the Gorilla Glass 4 found on the original model released earlier this year.
The company claims it can be dropped from about 5 feet and won’t break or shatter. This is a big plus, considering all the reports of broken Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones.
Event Area Shortcut Button
As with all new Samsung smartphones, this device has a power button on the right side and the volume keys are located on the left edge of the device. However, similar to last year, Samsung has included a customizable “Activity Zone” button on the left above the volume controls.
A single tap of the Activity Zone buttons launches what the company calls your outdoor companion. It launches the custom Activity Zone app by default, but can be customized to do a wide variety of different things as the user sees fit.
The Activity Area essentially makes it easier than ever to go out or do something. Complete with a compass, flashlight, stopwatch, weather, barometer and all the usual Samsung S-Health fitness gadgets. Activity Zone tracks steps, run, distance traveled and calories lost. Not to mention using the heart rate sensor on the back of the camera to check your pulse, heart rate, stress level, blood pressure and much more.
All said and done Exclusive to AT&T, the Galaxy S7 Active delivers the same great Samsung Galaxy experience everyone knows and loves, just more durable, much longer lasting and with a bit of customization for those who need it. It’s available starting today, so grab one from almost any AT&T store and enjoy.
