Computer security researchers from the famous antivirus Dr Web warn Android users with Facebook accounts in a survey published on July 1, 2021. Nine Android apps aim to trap Internet users in order to recover their identifiers.
The way the malicious apps worked was the same every time. Users install the application and full of ads. To avoid invasive ads, the application asks Internet users to connect to their Facebook accounts.

The app then opens a login window asking for your credentials : username, email and password. Unsurprisingly, the window was designed to intercept data provided by users. Hackers then recover this data, possibly for the purpose of reselling in bulk on black markets on the dark web.

Cookies are files created by the server of the website you visit. This data is used to recognize you on a site. Cookies may be used especially for advertising purposes.

Warned by Dr Web, Google quickly removed 9 applications from his shop. As a security measure, the company also banned application developers from accessing the Play Store. To avoid pitfalls, we recommend that you monitor all attempts to connect to your Facebook account. Finally, we recommend installing a good antivirus on your Android phone.
