Google apparently decided to get down to business. The Mountain View company took advantage of Google I/O 2017 to put some pressure on app developers. As you probably know, the biggest difference between Android and iOS lies in app optimization. We have to admit that on this side, Apple figured out how to deliver best practices.
But Google doesn’t mind continuing to see the Play Store infested with low-quality apps, poorly optimized and rendering Android unstable. That’s why Google at its various conferences reminded developers of the importance of the three pillars of a successful app: speed, security and stability. And to make sure these criteria would be met, Google decided to build a new system.
Google will penalize developers who offer unstable apps
To help developers deliver better optimized apps, Google will therefore offer them new tools. They will be able to find out if an app is too energy intensive, tends to slow down the system, or is safe. It’s Google’s way of saying “no more excuses”.
Because, despite these tools, if developers still offer poorly optimized apps, Google will let them know. First to warn them, then to punish them. If developers do nothing despite Google’s warnings, then apps will be flagged in Play Store and will lose visibility in the Android app store.
With billions of app downloads, the Google Play Store is indeed full of little gems but also completely useless and even full of apps laden with viruses and other malware. Therefore, by strengthening its control, Google Make the Google Play Store much closer to the App Store from Apple.
