OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro: What You Need to Know

Now that the sleek OnePlus 7 Pro is ready, affordable buyers still have some decisions to make. Especially considering this year, the company has also launched an even cheaper regular OnePlus 7. Here’s what you need to know about both.

Is the OnePlus 7 worth choosing over the Galaxy S10? Should you get the bigger, better OnePlus 7 Pro instead, or something else entirely? This is a difficult decision and we will help you make the right choice.

OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro: Two Screen Sizes

Usually OnePlus releases a phone in the first half of the year and a second “T” model in the second half. However, they immediately released two phones for 2019 and a third is still coming. However, the regular OnePlus 7 is not available in the United States and most people only have one option, the OnePlus 7 Pro. If you live outside the US, this post will help you decide. Or wait until the OnePlus 7T arrives later this year.

As you can see above, the larger Pro model is a significant upgrade over the company’s current models. It has a beautiful large, bezel-less display with no notches or cutouts for the camera. Instead, that camera comes out on top. Next, it packs triple rear cameras.

The larger 6.7-inch Quad-HD AMOLED display is a big deal in itself. This year, the 7 Pro screen has a 90Hz refresh rate. Almost every phone on the market is refreshed 60 times per second. The OnePlus 7 Pro does this 90 times per second, making everything faster and smoother. We’ve seen something similar on the Razer phone and the new iPad Pro. You’ll want the Pro model.

OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro: Design

At the time of the announcement, OnePlus hardly mentioned the regular OnePlus 7, and that’s because it looked identical to the OnePlus 6T from late 2018. The company kept the tiny teardrop notch on the screen to house the front-facing camera, there’s a dual camera on the back that’s tucked away, and the screen is still 6.4 inches. It’s the same phone as the OnePlus 6T with upgrades for 2019 in all the right areas. They applied all the changes to Pro.

The OnePlus 7 is almost identical to the OnePlus 6T at the end of 2018. You get a faster processor, more RAM and storage, faster internal components, a better camera and a bigger battery. Basically, the important stuff.

In terms of design, the main change comes with the OnePlus 7 Pro, as you can see above. It packs all the changes we just mentioned, including a massive 6.67-inch display and a mechanical pop-up front camera. Watch the video below to better understand the design.

As you can see, the front is ALL screen. Exactly 93% screen-to-body ratio. Customers will enjoy this big, beautiful, fast, smooth 6.67 inch display without any notch. Something we don’t expect Samsung or Apple to offer until 2020. That’s pretty impressive, really, and a daring move that we think will pay off for the company.

Buyers will be able to walk into a T-Mobile store, use this big phone, see how fancy it is, and then realize it’s hundreds of dollars less than its competitors. A brave move.

OnePlus 7 Pro Features, Camera and More

So how do they differ with the two phones, what are their features and how much will you save if you get the regular 7? Here’s what you need to know.

In case you haven’t noticed, this is a big, fast and powerful smartphone. matches or kicks Samsung Galaxy S10+ in general. Note that the fingerprint sensor inside the screen is Optical, a camera, not the new Ultrasonic sensor technology we’ve seen from Samsung.

The smaller regular OP7 will be a solid upgrade over previous models, even if they look the same.

As you can see, the smaller regular 7 is similar to last year’s 6T. However, everything else has received an upgrade inside. You get a 3,700mAh battery to power this big 6.4 inch display, a faster processor compatible with flagship devices for 2019, and a better camera. It doesn’t have Dash fast charging, wireless charging, or a headphone jack, but it’s an otherwise great budget phone.

For comparison, the 6.1-inch Galaxy S10 only has a 3,400mAh battery and the larger S10+ has a 4,100mAh battery. It potentially makes the OnePlus 7 the perfect middle ground. The company reused the old OnePlus 6T design, screen, notch and a few other things to offer customers a cheaper phone. A win-win for them and you.

How much are the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro?

This is where things start to get interesting. Every year OnePlus has slightly increased the price of its phone while remaining cheaper than most of its competitors. While the OnePlus 7 varies by region, the larger OnePlus 7 Pro is a bit more than we’re used to paying for OP phones. Still, it’s very aggressively priced and a great deal.

The base OnePlus 7 Pro with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is $669. Then you can get 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for just $699, which is $300 cheaper than the Galaxy S10+. And finally, the OP7Pro with a stunning 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is available for just $749. In regions like India we see the regular 7 cost around $200 to $250 less than the big sibling.

We do not have complete information on the smaller OnePlus 7 pricing, as each market and region has different pricing and it is difficult to compare them to US prices. Either way, the larger Pro model severely undercuts the Android and iPhone competition while delivering an arguably bigger and better experience. Then the regular phone is a great value proposition.

OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro Release Date

And last but not least, OnePlus 7 release date. After a lot of rumors, leaks and other stuff, the phone finally arrived on May 14 and May 17 in the US and around the world. Then, about a month later, the regular little OnePlus 7 finally available as June approaches.

All that said, know that the standby time of OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro is over. Those in the US can’t pick the model they want, but the Pro is what most people are probably interested in. You can walk into a T-Mobile store and try before you buy, and the OnePlus 7 Pro works on all major carriers in the US and around the world, including Verizon Wireless.
