OnePlus 10 Pro: manufacturer explains why white smartphones are rarer

When it launched the OnePlus 10 Pro in China last January, the smartphone was only available in two colors: Volcanic Black and Emerald Forest. Now, the manufacturer has lifted the veil on a new color: White Panda. Besides being all white, this new model the first in the series to offer 512GB of storage, which finally puts it in line with most of its competitors.

Liu Fengshuo, head of the OnePlus product line, announced on the Chinese social network Weibo on the occasion of the launch of the new “Extreme Edition” version of his smartphone. Why were there so few white smartphones on the market?.

If white smartphones are that rare, it’s because of the complexity of the color.

OnePlus shared three main reasons it believes to explain why manufacturers are less likely to launch white smartphones. First, it seems The CMF (color, material, finish) process is more difficultbecause small changes easily lead to a different white rendering.

Moreover, OnePlus explains that the rate of return is low and the cost is high. Indeed, Fengshuo said it took “about three months of testing.” 100 different trials tested to find the best white for the new OnePlus 10 Pro “Panda White”.

Finally, white color is more prone to fingerprints and smudges, that doesn’t make it an attractive option for phone manufacturers. Unsurprisingly, OnePlus is announcing that it has managed to overcome this problem with the OnePlus 10 Pro. The ‘Panda White’ model can maintain a similar color no matter which angle you look at it from.
