Microsoft has been looking forward to improving its online cloud storage service OneDrive for a while now. Last month, the vehicle was completely revamped and many interesting features were added in the process. Unfortunately, not all changes are good changes. Rather than adding more, Microsoft decides to remove some.
This is also the case for this feature, which appeared in the service in 2021. Simple to use: It allows the user to upload files to the cloud using a simple connection. Concretely, you don’t need to download the file in question before dragging it to OneDrive. All you have to do is provide the download link to the app; He will take care of the rest.
OneDrive will no longer let you upload files from a link
In fact, OneDrive takes care of downloading the file from a third-party server. It is this detail that probably causes the loss of functionality. Microsoft actually states in its blog post that the maintenance cost is very high. Knowing that this is only available to individuals, not businesses, and is therefore less used, we think these expenses are not necessarily profitable for the firm.
As of March 29, it will no longer be possible to use connections to store files in OneDrive. You will now need to download files upstream to save time and space. But don’t forget some good news: Files uploaded this way will not be affected by this measure. These will remain in your storage without having to download them again.
