After the G4 release date and throughout the summer, multiple reports of LG G4 problems began to surface. Issues such as touchscreen not recognizing touches or not turning on with tap-to-wake, random LED flashing notifications when there are no new messages, keyboard malfunctions, and countless others.
Our own LG G4 didn’t have any issues, but most owners across all carriers had the bigger issue of all, touchscreen issues. Earlier this year most carriers released a bugfix software update, including Verizon, but later pulled because it caused more problems. But today Verizon is rolling out a major update for the LG G4.
Starting today and all week, Verizon LG G4 users can expect a major software update to arrive. This is not Android 6.0 Marshmallow and instead a much needed update to fix some issues in Android 5.1 Lollipop and solve the touchscreen fiasco.
Verizon started rolling out an update for the touchscreen glitch in early October, but it was pulled a day or two later, causing problems in other areas. It makes the owners who are already upset even more unhappy. For whatever reason the update took some time to resolve and now towards the end of November it’s finally here. This is what owners need to know.
The Verizon LG G4 update will add the latest security patches to the smartphone, but it also fixes the software that is causing the touchscreen issue. Although Verizon has replaced many units, this was not a hardware issue. Instead, a simple software fix fixed it, and it’s coming today.
Multiple reports in our inbox and on the web confirm that the Verizon LG G4 update is rolling out today, and it actually fixes touchscreen issues. However, Verizon has also added some additional features. We hear that a new slow motion mode has been added to the LG camera gallery, enabling incredible slow motion video with the 16 megapixel camera. There are also reports of some minor UI changes and most importantly the ability to change the volume for notifications, ringtones, media volumes and more. They should all be separate, but they weren’t.
LG G4 owners can expect a large 422MB update from Verizon or a smaller 62MB update if they get the original back in October. This is an over-the-air update and may take up to two weeks to arrive. Owners can wait for this or go to settings > about phone > manually check for updates to get them right now. This should fix the annoying touchscreen issue, a few other things, and deliver an overall improved LG G4 experience with Verizon.
As for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, rumors circulating suggest a release in early January, but we’ll update as soon as we have more details.
