The impressive LG G4 is one of the best smartphones available in 2015, even without the fingerprint scanner or aluminum design. It has a big and bright 5.5-inch 2k display, real leather construction materials, tons of customization, and a pretty great camera. That said, it has a few issues like touchscreen issues, keyboard issues, and some occasional performance issues, all of which are fixed in an update today.
The LG G4 has been on the market for over a few months now, and more and more reports of LG G4 problems started to surface over the summer and beyond. Touchscreen not recognizing touches or turning on when tapped to wake them up, LED notification flashing for no reason, keyboard issues and more.
The biggest problem is that the touchscreen doesn’t recognize touches, which we’ve seen firsthand on our own devices and on countless forums and T-Mobile support pages. Add in Google’s latest security patches, improvements to Android 5.1 Lollipop, and other minor issues and the LG G4 needs an update. We have good news for Verizon and AT&T LG G4 smartphone owners and all the details are below.
Since its launch in July, we’ve seen numerous minor updates arrive for the LG G4, but we haven’t fixed most of the issues owners are facing. However, today it was reported that they were finally all fixed.
This weekend and starting today, both Verizon and AT&T are rolling out a massive software update for the LG G4 packed with fixes, improvements, security patches and more that all owners should know. A big part of this is that it claims to “fix” the touchscreen issue, which is currently the biggest issue.
While the LG G4 is still an excellent smartphone with a lot to offer like a removable battery and a micro SD slot to expand storage, all the issues users have reported ruins an excellent phone.
According to AT&T (and Verizon) are rolling out a major update starting today that will fix all this. We haven’t yet installed the update ourselves to confirm the fix, and some users may need an additional reboot once it’s complete, but the changelog specifically mentions touchscreen issues.
Here are the full details of the LG G4 update, according to LG and AT&T, and as we speak for Verizon Wireless users, we’re hearing a similar update is rolling out and more carriers are coming soon. Verizon lists it as a “security update” only, but it’s almost the same size as AT&T, so it’s likely the same changes and improvements are included.
LG and its partners have made changes to the calendar, improved battery life, fixed keyboard stutters and glitches, reportedly improved the already excellent camera, and fixed the GPS. We’ve heard dozens of complaints about LG Android 5.1 Lollipop devices having issues with GPS not locking, and this update should fix or improve that situation as well.
But the biggest ones are the touchscreen improvements and the latest security patches (stagefright) coming directly from Google.
This will fix almost any problem the user is having and we will update once we learn more and get it ourselves. It’s also worth noting that recent reports suggest that the LG G4 may see Android 6.0 Marshmallow before the end of November, and that the LG G3 will surpass most other manufacturers in Google’s latest Android version. This should have more improvements too.
