LG G4 Android 6.0 Update Arrives to More Users

The LG G4 was one of the first Android smartphones to receive an update to Google’s latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow software version. It started rolling out to a few smaller regions like Poland earlier this year, but today we confirmed a major LG G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and US carriers may be next. Google released the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update on October 5th, and LG was the first manufacturer to offer an update. The LG G4 was the first non-Nexus device to receive Marshmallow, and the highly anticipated update is now rolling out in Europe.

Last week Verizon LG G4 received a minor bug fix update that many thought would be Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but that wasn’t the case. The LG G4 in the United States is still on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but that may change soon. Here’s what we know so far.

In April, the LG G4 was announced in New York and launched in early June on all carriers in the United States and the world. We knew the updates would come quickly, as Google is working closely with LG on the new LG-made Nexus 5X, but no one expected it to come so quickly.

In October, LG rolled out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to a small group of users in Poland, then in early November, LG’s homeland Korea began receiving the latest software version. But now, an even bigger and more important market is getting the update starting today.

According to LG and many reports The official LG Bridge app on Reddit is pushing Android 6.0 Marshmallow to most variants of the LG G4 in Europe. While we don’t have all the details or a full changelog yet, LG has shared a few. details here.

A report shows that Germany, Spain, Turkey, Croatia, UK, Switzerland and more received updates via the online tool this week. In fact, it shows the update launching on November 25, but we’re starting to see reports of the software release today.

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Google made a lot of changes. Animations and effects, battery life, improved security and app permissions, Doze for battery life, improved voice controls, long-pressing the home button, Google Now on Tap, and everything from LG have also made some device-specific changes. The software update fixes multiple LG G4 bugs like touchscreen issues, improves security, replaces KnockCODE, “browse” notification at the top of the screen and much more.

This is a major update that brings a lot of minor changes, but most will be under the hood, not visual changes. That being said, the update is better. The biggest changes are improved performance, longer battery life (up to 30%), improved security and more. The update is reportedly a 1.55GB file, which we recommend downloading over WiFi or using a desktop computer or laptop and the LG Bridge software tool.

For everyone else, the LG G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update should come as an over-the-air software upgrade. Users should receive a notification on their handset, otherwise owners can manually check for updates by going to settings > about phone >. We have yet to hear from LG regarding the G4 Marshmallow update in the United States, but it will likely come soon. If this quick release in Poland, Korea and now the UK is any indication, carriers in the United States could release it before the end of the year.
