LG G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update In Progress

Google released the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update on October 5th, making LG the first manufacturer to offer updates to its smartphones. More specifically, the LG G4 received Android 6.0 Marshmallow in Poland. But today we learned that LG is moving forward with its upgrade plans and we have all the details below.

In April, the LG G4 was announced in New York and launched in early June on all carriers in the United States and the world. We knew the updates would come quickly, as Google is working closely with LG on the new LG-made Nexus 5X, but no one expected it to come so quickly.

Over the past years LG hasn’t been the best at updating software, but with Android 5.1 Lollipop and now Marshmallow, the Korean company is taking a much faster approach to delighting its customers. And while its US launch is still a mystery, today LG announced Another big G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

According to the official LG Mobile blog in Korea, the homeland of the smartphone and TV giant, the latest LG G4 is now getting an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It first arrived in Poland in mid-October, and now just a month after Google’s initial release, the company is ready to launch it to the mass market.

Sending an update to a small market like Poland isn’t a big deal, but it was more of a testing phase for LG before it got ready for more important markets. Testing the software to ensure a good update experience before rolling it out to more users around the world.

And apparently, the LG G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is going smoothly, as they have confirmed it’s coming to Korea today. It’s a much larger market with millions and millions of owners. This is the first step before moving to international models and, more importantly, to the United States, which is good news.

According to the blog post, LG is rolling out the G4 Android 6.0 update on a large scale in South Korea, but it will take about two weeks to reach all users. It’s a slow and gradual release to ensure there are no critical bugs or issues, and we can expect more details on a US release once all goes well.

However, while some users in Poland reported that the update worked smoothly and Android 6.0 Marshmallow was fast, stable and improved in battery life, there are also some missing features. Things like LG KnockCode lock screen security and a few other things have yet to be added and merged into Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This means LG is more focused on being the first to update rather than completing and delivering a complete experience, but that’s not the case with today’s Korean update. Users have confirmed that everything is included, and so far we’re not seeing any signs of issues or bugs.

For now the LG G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has hit Poland and users in South Korea and that’s it. And while we can’t say who will get it next, LG has promised quick updates in the near future. Those in the United States can hope it arrives before the end of the year, but no firm release date has been announced.

Carriers in the US go through a rigorous testing process, which usually takes 4-6 weeks to complete, before releasing updates to the public. So if LG is ready now, we could see a release in early December for carriers in the US.
