How to Speed Up Galaxy Note 5, Nexus 6P, and More in Seconds

This quick guide and easy tip will show users how to speed up their Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Google Nexus 6P, Moto X Pure Edition and more in seconds. New smartphones like the ones above are among the most powerful and fastest on the market, but a few minor tweaks could make them even better.

With their massive screens, 8-core processors, and 4GB of RAM, these smartphones are as powerful as laptops from just a few years ago, but software changes are keeping them from being even faster. While there are several ways to improve phone performance new launchers, custom software, rooting and other technical stuff, ours is very simple. In fact, all it takes is a few tweaks to the settings. No special skills, knowledge or rooting required.

Anyone can do it, from a first-time Android smartphone owner to a veteran who owns five different devices. It takes less than a minute and the difference will be extremely noticeable. We’re going to tweak the three settings, and below is a video explaining which ones, where, and what. The video is taken from an old Samsung smartphone, but the same method applies to essentially any Android device.

Whether you’re enjoying the latest 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with a super-fast 8-core processor, Google’s new Nexus 6P, Moto X, or even a cheap free phone you got from a carrier or Black Friday, this trick will speed up all devices.

What we’re going to do here today is unlock a hidden developer menu in settings and change three settings that speed up animations on all Android devices. This will make it faster to open apps, switch between screens and more, improve battery life and will be immediately noticeable. This is a little trick everyone should know and a great trick to share with friends and family.

Instructions

The first step is to access a hidden developer option in the settings on your preferred Note 5 or Android device. The video above explains how, the link below is a bit more detailed or if you’re comfortable keep reading.

Go to settings and go to the phone (or tablet) that says “Build Number”, tap that about seven (7) times. This will enable the hidden developer menu we need and now owners can easily speed up their Android with the steps in our video or screenshots below.

Speed up your device

Now that the developer options are unlocked, to speed up our Android phone or tablet we will have to go there and change the three quick settings about halfway down the screen. Follow the video or screenshots.

Go to Settings > Developer Options > , , and . These are all set to 1x. When you turn these values UP, you will see that animations and screen transitions become extremely slow. You can try it just for fun, but we actually turn them off or turn them off completely.

Change all three of the animation settings mentioned above from 1x to 0.5x. This will halve the animations and transition effect speed and make your phone appear almost twice as fast. Everything opens faster. From apps, navigating through settings, opening windows, app tray and everything else. The speed of transitions and animations has been doubled.

These are smooth and beautiful animations that Android has always used, even better in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Windows disappears quickly, disappears when you shut it down, etc. They are smooth animations, but that kills them a bit. Some users may choose to disable them entirely and turn them off, but keeping them at 0.5x makes Android look nice, albeit faster than before. I don’t turn mine off completely, but to each his own.

We recommend that users restart the device after changing these settings to ensure they are applied system-wide. As a reminder, this works on all Android smartphones and tablets, not just here or the few we mentioned in the title. Make the changes today and enjoy a faster smartphone. If it seems too fast, stutters, or you don’t like the changes, go back to 1x using the same steps outlined above. Leave a comment below if you noticed the changes.
