When it comes to photography, things rarely go our way. You wait to get the perfect shot, and just as you click the shutter button, you see someone enter the frame. And that’s only 0.001% of the things that can go wrong. From tree branches to glass reflections, you name it. So what do you do? Are you just giving up on your idea?
The year is 2020 and there are many image editing apps like PicsArt that let you edit and change the background of a picture. And apps like PicsArt make it very simple and easy so you don’t have to throw your photos away.
So, if you are looking for ways to edit and change the backgrounds of photos in the market, here is how to do it using PicsArt.
How to Change Background in PicsArt for Android
Unlike many Android image editing apps, removing the background of photos and pictures is not a difficult task in PicsArt. However, you will need to be very patient and pay attention to creativity.
The good thing is that the app is smart enough to distinguish between person, hair, face, making the job easier.
Stage 1: After selecting the photo, tap the Cut icon. Here you will see various options such as Person, Face, Hair. In my case I chose to go with Background.
Tap on it and you will see the topic selected automatically. I then tapped the Invert icon to reverse the changes.
If you want to fine-tune the edges, tap the little Pencil tool to retouch the edges. Use the Eraser tool to erase the part of your selection you don’t want.
When done, tap Save.
Phew, that’s 50% of the work done. Now the next 50% is coming.
Pro Tip: Tap the Eye icon to see how your selection looks on a solid background.
step 2: Swipe right until you see the fit option. At this stage, you can reduce the size of the sticker by compressing it (and vice versa). Once you have decided on the frame, tap on Background.
PicsArt gives you several great backgrounds in the app itself. But if you want your art to stand out, click the Plus icon on the left. From cool Autumn backgrounds (see Best Nature HD Wallpapers) to cheerful holiday themed images, there’s a lot to explore.
If you are not a big fan of backgrounds, you can also check out the Image option.
After that, drag the Blur slider to the right to give the image a somewhat natural look. This will remove the sharp edges of your sticker/selection.
Stage 3: You may also want to slightly modify the Shadow element. The mantra is simple – keep everything subtle.
You can also change the edges of the sticker with the Eraser option. Just make sure the size and opacity of the tool are not at the extremes.

After that, save and that’s it.
I decided to explore some more options like filters to give it a spooky effect. However, there are other options like Lens Flares and Shape Masks that you can try.
When it comes to completely changing the background, the real magic is how you blend the borders and manage the opacity of the edges. Of course, the background has to match the foreground. After all, you don’t want to look like a poorly done cut and paste job, do you?
How to Make Small Edits for Background in PicsArt
If you don’t want to completely change the background, PicsArt offers several options for further editing.
One of my favorite tools is the Clone tool. I like it better than the Uninstall tool. It can also be used for wires, lamp posts, birds, etc. It works especially well for intruders like
What makes it extra special is that you can control various aspects of this tool such as opacity, hardness and the size of the brush. You can also select the area you want to clone.
For example, I have a very simple photo below and as you guessed, I want to remove the wires. Here’s how to do it.
Stage 1: Tap Tools to open it and select Clone from the list. Now you will be asked to select the area you want to duplicate. Tap to select.
After that, tap on the Brush icon at the bottom to adjust the opacity, hardness and size of the brush.
Step 2: Now gently glide over the area you want to lift.
Quite naturally, you will need to adjust the opacity and hardness to see which setting best suits your image.
And hey, don’t forget to save your current edits.
And Evanesco!
This is how you can change and edit the image background in PicsArt. Add cool filters and other effects to the mix and you’ll have a winner right there. Obviously, in the beginning you will have to spend a significant amount of effort and time to perfect the result.
