This quick guide will show you how to change the Galaxy Note 9 text messaging app. Samsung has its own built-in Messages app, but 3rd party alternatives on the Play Store often offer more.

How To Change The Galaxy Note 9 Text Message App
The first step is to download a new text messaging program from the Google Play Store. Simply search for an SMS or text message and Google will list them all. Textra is my favorite text app, though Chomp or GoSMS are two other popular options. Here are the full instructions.
Basically, go to settings and quickly open the “Applications” section. Next, go to default apps and choose a new text messaging program on Galaxy Note 9. This tells the device which app to use to send and receive messages.

It’s worth noting that some apps like Textra will do the last few steps for you. After installing Textra and opening the app, you will see the “Set as Default” option at the bottom of the screen. This will automatically change the setting we mentioned above.
If a new text messaging app doesn’t ask you to set a default, follow our steps and do it manually. This is a step you cannot skip. Why? because older Android devices got double notifications if you downloaded a second text messaging app. This is no longer the case. Android does not allow two apps to be set as “default” at the same time. This way you only get one text notification regardless of how many apps you have installed.
As of now this is the only text app that can send and receive text messages or alert you. If you chose Textra (or others), go in and customize it however you want. Change everything from font, style, colors, balloon colors and even notification icon or emojis. Textra offers a little bit of everything.
