Samsung’s new flagship is unlike any other Samsung smartphone ever released. It is wrapped in a durable aluminum frame and is covered with glass both front and back. It’s a sleek looking phone, but many users will likely want to protect their investment with a case. Griffin offers a lot Different cases for Galaxy S6 owners, but one of our favorites has to be the Survivor Core because of its minimalist sleek design, low profile, yet sturdy reinforced corners that provide as much protection as possible without making it too bulky. At the same time, the back is transparent so users can still see the unique black, white or gold color coated with glass, the Galaxy S6 logo and more.
Not everyone wants a bulky purse or a wallet case that carries all the bank cards as we linked above, and for those who don’t want the Survivor Core to be perfect. In fact, it is the thinnest case in the Survivor series.
Griffin uses three different building materials and approaches to create this case. For one, it has a lightweight TPU design that protects the sides and front from scratches and nicks, which also makes the Galaxy S6 flexible making it easy to slide into the case. Then they added reinforced polycarbonate corners and clear black plastic, which Griffin calls “torsion zones” that protect it from drops higher than 6.6 feet.
The back is made of clear and durable hard plastic, but unfortunately our unit had a few blemishes and scratches on its transparent back right out of the box. This leads us to think that it will be drawn quickly and easily. That said, the whole point of a case is to grunt the damage, not your phone. So that shouldn’t matter to most people considering Survivor.
Griffin’s Survivor Core case isn’t very slippery, but it doesn’t have a rubbery feel to collect dust, dirt, or links, either. It’s the perfect middle ground that’s thin, durable, easy to hold, and slips in and out of my pocket easily.
All the ports for the camera, the IR sensor on the top, the micro USB charging port on the bottom, and most importantly the buttons are all precision cut and have a perfect fit and alignment. The buttons are easy to press, so it does not limit the device. This is always a major area of concern in TPU cases, but it’s not an issue here with Griffin’s Survivor Core case for the Galaxy S6.
Overall, there isn’t much in Survivor Core, but that’s the point. Costing only $29.99, it offers a minimal design with maximum protection. It’s one of the more expensive TPU cases, but it fits very well, being very comfortable, soft buttons, while still allowing the Galaxy S6’s design to shine through from the back.
The best part of the Survivor Core for me is that the back is transparent and the TPU material is folded from the front of the device. This protects the screen from scratches when tossing it or when the Galaxy S6 is face down on a table. The bundle doesn’t include a screen protector or anything, and all buyers will get is for the pretty hefty $29.99 price tag. This case only comes in black.
