Spell checkers are integrated into various everyday tools such as browsers by default and even Android keyboards that automatically correct typos. Google has announced the integration of a grammar checker into Google Docs, an AI-based tool whose testing began last year.

This grammar checker is based on a system using artificial intelligence. Its operation is very similar to that of Google Translate, as the tool will leverage a huge database to provide more accurate automatic translations. The company says the process is based on the same technology.
A simple spell checker like the one in Google Chrome relies on a word dictionary and only compares user input with a list of words found in the dictionary, whereas a true grammar checker requires a much more sophisticated system. The technology used by Google is based on artificial intelligence, or rather machine learning. Better still, it’s scalable and developed with input from expert linguists.
Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available to everyone. First, because it’s reserved for G Suite subscribers only, and above all because it’s currently only available in English. We do not yet know when the French version will be released. I hope it’s not too late to come.
