Google Smartwatch Release Rumors

A new report He suggested that Google is developing two new Android Wear smartwatches that will be released later this year. The company is busy preparing the release of Android 7.0 Nougat by working with HTC on two new Nexus smartphones and now it looks like it will take over the smartwatch market.

All the attention has been on Google’s new 2016 Nexus smartphones lately, but these are unlikely to be the only Nexus devices arriving later this year. With the built-in Google Assistant, watches made by Google can track them. These can be Google or Nexus branded devices.

Before we get started, it’s worth noting that this is nothing more than a rumor at the moment and there are no real photos to back it up. That being said, the source has been correct in the past, has shared reliable information, and AndroidPolice gives this rumor a 9/10 in terms of reliability and actually bearing fruit. If these are Nexus watches, they may have been produced by a partner or Google, it’s too early to tell.

The picture above goes with even more new ones information from their sources. It looks like the finished product, or at least prototypes. It also shows extremely useful watch faces full of information for users thanks to Android Wear 2.0 software. This photo was produced from real photos of a prototype to hide the identity of the leaker. That may be true, but things can often change once these are released. All these widgets look very useful.

They state that Google is working on two new Android Wear smartwatches, which may or may not be called Nexus devices, and will launch after 2016 Nexus smartphones. One will be larger than the other and have more features, but both will be smaller than the massive 46mm Moto 360 2nd Gen.

Both of Google’s new Android Wear smartwatches will have completely round faces, not the flat tire design we saw on Motorola. They will be premium models with the latest Android Wear 2.0 software and more.

Codenamed Angelfish and Swordfish, these two new smartwatches will help Google push Android Wear forward, given that Samsung uses its own operating systems and other watch brands haven’t launched new devices recently. We haven’t seen anything from LG, Huawei is still relatively new and Motorola has yet to launch the 3rd Gen Moto 360. As a result, Google will take the void and offer two striking options for buyers. Maybe even combine them with new Nexus phones, Project Fi networking services and more. We’ll have to wait and see.

May be similar to Moto 360, but better

Android Police states that the better of the two is Angelfish, but the names are yet to be confirmed and they will change when they are actually released. The AngelFish will have a larger 43.5mm round face (slightly smaller than the 46mm Moto 360 2nd Gen) and will have three side buttons as shown at the top of the page. A centered round crown with a button at the top and bottom. It will have strap lugs rather than a round device like Motorola’s smartwatch. It should also have the latest Android Wear, metal design, 4G LTE connectivity, GPS and be a standalone device without the need for a paired smartphone. It will be the better of the two.

The smaller model is only slightly smaller, coming in at 42mm like many smaller Android Wear watches available today and has a crown button on the side. Its design is slightly different, there is no 4G LTE or GPS, and these may have a heart rate monitor, but that has yet to be confirmed.

At the end of the day, we don’t have many details yet, but it’s exciting to know now. It looks like Google is making two impressive new Nexus smartwatches to launch this year. Probably at aggressive prices, it’s paired with Nexus phones and showcases everything Android Wear has to offer. We also hear that Google will add some cool new features to Android Wear and some interactive faces to make it easier to access music, Gmail, texts and more. Next, a big aspect is that the new Google Assistant (like Google Home) is built in, giving them even more appeal. We’ll update when we learn more.
