Dark mode has been in almost every Google app throughout 2019, but google search was still missing. You had to install the beta version to take advantage of it. After a few months of testing, the Dark Mode on Google app is now rolling out to all users in stable version. Everyone, or almost, as you must have at least Android 10 or iOS 12 on the iPhone to take advantage of it.
How to enable dark mode in Google Search?
Starting Tuesday, May 19, 2020, Google is starting to roll out an update to its search app on Android and iOS. If the option is enabled system-wide, the app should default to dark mode once installed. Otherwise, you will find a new menu in settings to do it manually.
- Open the Google app
- tap More down, right after Settings
- on the menu Generaldefine option Theme
- A popup window opens with three options: Light / Dark / system default
- To choose Dark Where system default if your environment is already in dark mode and voila.
If you have Dark Mode enabled system-wide or individually for each app, the dark interface will allow you to have a more unified look with the rest of Google apps. The Google Play Store, Gmail or Google Photos have repeatedly qualified for it over the past months. Dark mode is a way to relieve eyestrain while saving battery life.
Finally, if you don’t have the latest update of the Google app on your smartphone yet, you’ll have to wait a bit. It should be in the coming hours, or even days. Otherwise, it is always possible to enjoy it now by downloading the latest APK directly.
