When you browse photos in the Google Photos app, you can sometimes find images from third-party software like WhatsApp, Messengers, and even Instagram. In fact, by default, images sent to these services are automatically saved to your account, which can be annoying. Google decided to stop.
It will always be possible to save all these photos to your account. However, this is not possible will be done more automatically. The Mountain View company announced this in a calm message posted directly in the app’s FAQ:
Hello everyone
Due to COVID-19, people are sharing more photos and videos. To reduce our impact on internet traffic, we decided to disable automatic syncing from services like WhatsApp, Messenger or Kik.
Starting today, you’ll see a message in the app explaining this change, but you can change this setting at any time.
Coronavirus blamed
Thus, Google evokes The coronavirus crisis to justify this choice although it seems a bit late. In any case, this justification suggests that automatic syncing will return soon. However, no date was given by the Californian company.
