The Phone app is an app dedicated to calls that installs by default on Google Pixel, Android One smartphones like the Nokia 7 Plus or Motorola One Vision, and soon Xiaomi devices sold in Europe. The news, which disappointed Xiaomi Mi Note 10 users and others alike, would actually be missing out on a popular feature: recording voice calls.
This feature is no longer supported by the Phone app since Android Pie 9.0. However, all new Xiaomi smartphones that will be introduced to the European market in 2020 will have the Google Phone app by default. This explains users’ frustration as it is now automatically rolled out in MIUI 11, the manufacturer’s latest in-house overlay based on Android 10.
Xiaomi then assured its users that this feature will come to the relevant devices in 2020. Only, Google can possibly provide an early solution to the problem. The bloggers at XDA-Developers researched the code for the latest 43.0.289191107 version of Google’s Phone app. It was deployed on the Pixel 4 on Wednesday, January 15.

A feature removed since Android 9.0 Pie
As Mishaal Rahman rightly remembers, voice call recording was a feature available in almost all Android operating systems until Android 9.0 Pie. The manufacturer then suddenly decided to withdraw it. In fact, users were supposed to trust OEMs and hope that this functionality is available in various default search apps. Pixel and Android One smartphone owners had no choice. root their phones so that they can record their phone conversations.
However, the editor-in-chief states that since April, Google will be working on an API that could allow third-party developers to make this functionality available to users. For now, the start recording button has not yet appeared in the app, we will notify you as soon as there is something new.
