Since its launch in 2015, Apple Pay has managed to establish itself as a benchmark in the mobile payment services space. In the United States, as in France, Apple’s payment service is a hit. But Google didn’t have the last word. The Mountain View giant returns on January 8, 2018 with a new service to end Apple Pay hegemony: Google Pay. Specifically, Google Pay presents itself more like this: “rebranding” aimed at simplifying Payment instruments offered by the company. Thus, Google Pay brings together the Android Pay mobile payment platform launched in 2015 and the Google Wallet application, which provides peer-to-peer payments since 2011.

This merger should quite simply enable: simplify purchases and payments via Google. In order to make any kind of payment, including money transfers between people, you only need to save your payment information to your Google account once. Ease of use is undoubtedly one of Apple Pay’s advantages over its competitors, and this simplification should allow Google Pay to gain market share. However, there is one big issue that Google Pay hopes to compete with Apple’s service: availability. While Apple Pay has been available in France since 2016, Google’s service is still not available in our regions in 2018. Android Pay has been available in Europe since November 2017, but not in France, except for a few banks. However, we can hope that Google will take advantage of this change in strategy to deploy Google Pay in France.
