Google Messages will let you edit your messages after you send them

For users of messaging like Discord, the ability to edit a message after sending makes sense. But this is no longer the case for all apps trying to catch up. Last year, iMessage gained this functionality with the arrival of iOS 16, while WhatsApp joined the group at the beginning of 2023. So it was time for Google to react.

The job is now done with a few lines of code that leave little room for doubt, found in the latest beta version of Google Messages. Currently this feature is not even available in beta yet. However, it is certain that the app will soon allow you to change your messages after sending them.

Google Messages will also have this functionality, which has now become indispensable.

Here are all the lines of code found by TheSpandroid:

• bugle.enable_edit_ui : enables the message modification interface
• bugle.load _edit_history : loads message change history
• bugle.process_outgoing_edits: displays changes made to a message
• bugle.process_incoming_edits: processes changes to the recipient

Note that these implementations of these lines of code are still in the guessing stage, as the functionality has not yet been deployed. However, these are based on current operation on rival messaging services that currently offer this option. We don’t yet know if the release time will be limited like with WhatsApp, or if Google is planning a rollout in the coming weeks.

It’s nice to see email developers inspiring each other, especially when it comes to a feature as practical as editing. Each application has its own advantages, and each addition will surely benefit users who have to make compromises when choosing messaging.
