Google Messages gets a refresh on Samsung Galaxy and opts for minimalism

google messages new design

Clearly, Google is currently working hard to improve the Messages app. Just this morning we told you that the Mountain View company was working to make its messages accessible on multiple devices at the same time, just like WhatsApp and Messenger offer. That’s why a major update is being prepared in the Silicon Valley offices, and a small design change was needed to accompany the news.

The news was reported by Android design expert Radosław Błędowski, who according to him owns a Galaxy smartphone. At first glance, the app looks almost unrecognizable. It should also be said that Google did not do its best to revamp the Messages interface and did not hesitate to completely eliminate the previously prominent search bar.

Is Google modernizing the Messages interface in a way that harms ergonomics?

The decision may be surprising because it is possible to navigate between different menus of Google Messages from this bar. With its new interface, the manufacturer chooses to display its four-color logo in large format above the Messages header, which remains unchanged. Of course, the search function has not disappeared. But it’s hidden behind a small magnifying glass icon placed right next to the user’s profile button.

We think that the latter redirects to the same window as the current version of the bar, where it is possible to search for media, conversations and other links, but this needs to be verified. In fact, despite having several Galaxy smartphones in our possession, we have not yet been able to get our hands on this update in the editorial office. According to 9to5Google, it will also be possible to navigate between different categories (unread messages, archived, blocked, etc.) through this menu.
