When Google isn’t busy applying its AI everywhere, including Android messaging, the firm is working to deliver features users have been waiting for. But it takes time. Last December, we talked about the appearance of lines of code in the Google Messages beta that indicated that messages might soon be changed after they were sent.
However, there has been no news about the progress of the project since then. Until AssembleDebug, as always, digs into the latest beta version of the app for our colleagues at TheSpandroid. It didn’t fail: Editing messages after sending actually works in the app, provided you show some patience. In fact, this is impossible to test right now.
Editing messages will come to Google Messages soon, I promise
For now, this functionality is available in the latest beta version but cannot be enabled by users yet. AssembleDebug still managed to access it and it turns out that the option works as expected. To edit a sent message, simply press and hold for a few minutes until the option appears. To organise appears on the screen. It will be possible to change the same message several times, but be careful: you will only have 30 minutes to do this.
According to SpAndroid, we should see this feature officially rolled out in beta by the end of the month. Therefore, you will need to sign up for the testing program in advance to test the functionality yourself. Regardless, it looks like Google Messages is finally poised to catch up with competition that’s been offering message curation services for a while now. Even WhatsApp started working last year.
