Google Maps will soon offer to buy subway tickets

You have to queue at the ticket office or in front of an automated machine to pay for your subway ticket, often wasting valuable minutes. You also have to touch the machine in question, which is not the best thing to do during a pandemic. Google decided to fix this issue in Maps. Will be able to buy soon Its metro ticket directly in the app.

As Google announced in a blog post, the Mountain View giant has signed a partnership with more than 80 shipping agents worldwide. No list has been published. Only two cities appear in the press release: New York and San Francisco. Therefore, we do not know whether it will be possible to buy a ticket to travel to Paris. Currently nothing shows this.

Google Maps also offers to pay for your parking meter

The operation of this new feature is simple. You plan a route in your Maps app and it offers to buy you a virtual ticket. To bypass terminals, simply swipe your phone through dedicated terminals and let NFC do its thing. Besides making your life easier, it’s a nice way to touch as little as possible on the subway. This isn’t the first time Google has offered functions to fight the coronavirus.

Google isn’t just considering public transportation because the app will also allow you to pay parking fees through the app. Again, the goal is to make sure you avoid touching the parking meter. Just pay through the app and a timer will appear in your app telling you how much time you have left. This is the last feature for now limited to the United States only. Google still says it has signed agreements with more than 400 municipalities across the country.

Maps will roll out this new feature in the coming weeks and will also be available More on iOS than Android. Of course, we will inform you if it reaches France.
