Google Maps has been awarded a new widget on Android, let our colleagues at XDA Developers know. The media had noticed this new widget in the APK code of the 11.0.1 beta version of the Google Maps app while it was still in development.
From a handful of references obtained by XDA, it seems Google finally started the distribution of this new widget On smartphones running the beta version of Android 11 or Android 12. This is clearly a server-side distribution. There is virtually nothing you can do to force its appearance on your smartphone.
What’s new in the Google Maps widget on Android?
As screenshots shared by XDA show, this new widget consists of:a search bar. It is possible to search for a location using the Google Maps application without leaving the home screen of your smartphone. This shortcut allows users to search for a destination with just a few clicks.
