Does Google Maps Encourage Beginners to Take Dangerous Paths?
“Although it is the closest point to the mountain on the public road, the main starting point is on the north side of the mountain, about half an hour away. I know one of the folks involved in running Cuilcagh tried several times to get the Google pin off the top of Cuilcagh, but it’s still there”Mountaineering Ireland member Helen Lawless explains. Google, on its behalf,he is not at the source of imprudence in this industry.
According to the firm, Maps not showing routes to get to the top of the mountain. “We searched the reported places and confirmed that our navigation instructions do not direct people to dangerous roads”says a spokesperson. “The dashed gray arc at the end of the navigation is not a walking route, but a way of showing people how far they are from the target when the roads cannot get them there.”
