Google Maps lets you find a charging station compatible with your electric car

Since October 2018, Google Maps has been showing the location of charging stations for electric cars. Recently, the app also shows in real time whether a charging station is already full or free for use. Thanks to a new update currently being rolled out, Google Maps will go even further, report our colleagues from Android Police.

Google Maps sorts charging stations by plug type

From now on, Google Maps will list nearby charging stations by clutch type. Not all electric cars are compatible with the same charging connectors. For example, Tesla relies on a proprietary socket, Peugeots use the CHAdeMO standard, and BMW vehicles use CCS connectors. Thanks to adapters, it is sometimes possible to charge a car with an incompatible socket.

Google Maps so now it filters search results by voucher type. When you search for nearby stations, for example by typing “electric charging station” in the search bar, a new drop-down menu will appear just below (in the filters). The app sorts stations by available outputs: J1772, CCS (Combo 1), Type 2, CCS 2 (Combo 2), CHAdeMO, and Tesla.

That’s not all. Google Maps alsosave your favorite plug types directly in the application settings. Once this is done the app will always automatically show terminals equipped with it. This new option allows drivers to avoid unpleasant surprises when they arrive at a charging station. Based on testimonials collected by Android Police, this new feature is now rolling out. We will tell you more as soon as possible.
