The new version of Google Maps is designed to make it easier to distinguish natural elements in the environment. Maps are less flat and highlight landscapes such as mountain ranges, glaciers, deserts, beaches and even dense forests. Once is not special. After a series of fully functional updates, such as display of the speedometer, speed limits on French roads, and even new options for public transport, Google is now focusing on better representation cards.

These new cards will be available in 220 countries and regions currently supported by Google Maps. ” From the largest metropolises to small rural towns users will have access to a more realistic representation of the environment. If you have trouble visualizing these changes, the screenshot below showing the old version and the new version (right) of the Iceland map gives you an idea of the map improvements.
In some cities, street maps will also be more detailed for example, with information about the location of sidewalks and crosswalks. The exact shape and width of the roads will also be shown to provide a better idea of the scale of the lanes relative to the rest of the perimeter.
These features will initially be available in London, New York, and San Francisco. Google promises it will be available in more cities in the coming months. As for the new, more detailed maps, they’ll be available around the world starting this week.
