Google is preparing a “Switch to Android” app to migrate data from an iPhone

As 9to5Google reports, Google may want to create A “Move to iOS”-like app for iOS users who want to switch to Android. Indeed, the lines of code found in the latest version of “Data Restore Tool”, Android’s official data restore tool, refer to a new app called “Switch to Android”.

The lines of code tell the user, for example, to download a “Switch to Android” app from the App Store, then navigate to the iPhone’s Wi-Fi settings. Connect to Android phone using a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Google wants to ease the transition between iOS and Android

Right now, The fastest way to switch from iOS to Android is to use Google Drive.. Users who want to switch smartphones can back up their contacts, photos, videos and calendar events using Google’s app. However, only this method is boringbut it doesn’t transfer a lot of important data like apps.

With this new app, Google can convince new customers to switch their iPhones to an Android smartphone. We’ve seen that iPhone users are more loyal than Android users, but that hasn’t stopped 26% of iPhone users from switching to Android in 2020.

With Switch to Android it should be easier than ever to transfer data like SMS, contacts or photos. Eventually it should even be possible to move apps from an iPhone to an Android smartphoneprovided they are available on both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.

At the moment it is unknown when Google plans to distribute this app, but we hope it will arrive soon. This could get Google to catch up with Apple, because “Move to iOS” has been available for almost 5 years.
