Google for several yearsBuild a new statue with every new version of Android. These iconic statues represented the official codename of the update. So Google erected a statue showing an Oreo as a tribute to Android 8 Oreo and a nougat for Android 7 Nougat.
Giving up their sweet names, Google broke tradition. The Mountain View giant hasn’t added a statue to its campus garden since Android 10, internally known as Quince Tart. Android 11 (Red Velvet Cake), Android 12 (Snow Cone), and Android 12L (SnowCone v2) did not have their own status.
Google may refresh Android statues ahead of its annual conference
But until recently, statues depicting earlier versions of Android were still visible on the Google campus in front of Building 44 in Mountain View. 18 sculptures in total. Recently, the company has moved the figures away from its territory. The statues were moved back to a small park outside the visitor center for some unknown reason.
According to information relayed by our colleagues from Android Authority, Google has finally made its decision. to destroy statues. Citing testimonies from many visitors on Google Maps, the outlet claims that Google moved all the statues to an unknown location a few days ago.
“All statues removed”, Can we read on Maps? A user bids more and states it “everything is completely empty”. Unfortunately, “No sign of whether they will come back”. Another visitor recommends Google allowed domain corruption during the quarantine period when visits are low.
“The whole area looks deserted and the candy store looks like the post-apocalyptic stores you see in video games and movies from the outside.”, initializes the visitor. Media speculate that Google may have removed the statues to preserve and restore them ahead of Google I/O, the group’s annual conference. Reviews show that Android statues badly need some paint. Will they be returning to campus soon?
