It’s possible to back up files for offline viewing with Google Drive on the web, just like Google’s Backup & Sync app for computers. It was previously limited to Docs, Sheets, and Slides documents, but in a note posted on the G follow-up blog, Google announces that the functionality has been expanded to Office documents and other non-Google formats.
Google Drive: G Suite users can save any file type for offline use
Introduced in beta, this new feature makes the offline experience in Google Drive more complete. Now users Access all your important files from the web even when offlinefor example, when traveling or in case of problems accessing the Internet. To access this beta, G Suite administrators must first enable Drive File Stream and also enable offline consulting in their domain.
For non-admins, enable the feature in Google Drive settings, sign in to Chrome with the account associated with the beta-registered Google group, and access Drive File Stream. To mark non-Google files as available offline, right-click a file and select “Make available offline”.
Besides being limited to G Suite users for now, offline access to all file types is only possible with the Google browser, expecting it to expand for everyone in the coming months.
