Google Drive: Mac and PC app will be removed in March 2018

Google has announced that support for the Google Drive Mac and PC app will end on December 11. The app will then be completely removed on March 12, 2018. Starting next October, users will receive notifications that the service is about to be shut down.

Users will then be directed to one of two alternatives, depending on whether they are professional or individual. Indeed, Google has recently released its Backup and sync tool that allows individuals to back up data or access files from the cloud. This app replaces both Google Drive and Google Photos Uploader apps. Its functions are the same as Google Drive and its operation is very similar.

for companies, Google recently launched Drive File Exporter, to save space on a local hard drive and freely access files stored in Google Drive from a computer. This new application offers a more refined design and a better integrated approach with significantly reduced synchronization time.

These two apps have some differences. Each offers several features that the other does not. Therefore, everyone should consult full list of features to check which software meets their needs. At first glance, Backup and Sync is more convenient for most users, but some criticize it for lacking NAS support.

The Google Drive service, which was shut down yesterday, will remain unchanged. It will still be possible to access this directly from the web and smartphone apps. In order to better meet the different needs of individuals and professionals, only Mac and PC applications are subject to division.
