After the years, Google Docs has never stopped getting better. So much so that Google’s online service is now capable of replacing a classic word processor like Word. Of course, we can always blame it for some shortcomings, such as an effective spelling and grammar check. On the other hand, the Google tool does its job very well, it remains always available and above all free.
A word counter built into Google Docs but only available in G Suite
So what was really missing from Google Docs? Which functionality has never been offered before? In summary, the answer is: real time word counter. The shortcoming has now been filled, as Google has just integrated such an option into its online service. A word counter actually already existed, but going to the menu was always necessary. toolsthen select the function word count. Here it is enough to enable the function tools > word count > Show word counter benefitwriting a result.
The result is displayed in real time in the lower left corner of the screen, exactly as Word does. You can access other information by clicking on the small word counter window: page counter and character counter (with or without spaces).
The bad news is that this feature is only G SuiteBusiness solution integrating Google Docs, Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar. Therefore, we will have to wait for Google to decide to bring it to the standard version. The live word counter is currently rolling out and is scheduled for completion on September 23.
