Google Calendar will no longer send SMS notifications from January 7, 2019

If you’re using Google Calendar as part of your (paid) G Suite subscription, you can receive text notifications for your events so far. However, from January 7, 2019, Google Calendar will no longer offer such notifications. Google explains in its blog post: “As the Organizer offers in-app notifications, you can always be notified regardless of your device or connection”.

Google Calendar: SMS notifications, almost done

SMS notifications will thus be changed in two ways. If you have Google Calendar for Android or iOS, they appear every time the Google Calendar page is opened on a computer or smartphone. You will also receive an email if you have configured default SMS notifications when creating new events, changes, cancellations or replies. However, it’s easy to change this behavior in your settings so that it doesn’t fill up your mailbox too much.

Google explains that the Google Calendar API will also be changed to reflect this change. SMS notifications were not available for free G Suite users. Google does indeed offer subscription plans for professionals and businesses. These subscriptions start at €4 per user per month, professional messaging based on Gmail (with the company’s domain name instead of @gmail.com), advanced teleconferencing and video conferencing options, advanced messaging security team, shared calendars, access to 30GB presents. cloud storage (unlimited for more expensive plans) and 24/7 technical support.
