Gmail improves its web interface: discover what’s new

Unlike what’s piling up in Google’s graveyard, Gmail is definitely one of Google’s most enduring services. Webmail even survived the advent of Inbox, a “next generation” client that the American firm used to bring more simplicity and modernity to a communications system that had existed for decades. Eventually the Inbox disappeared. And many new things have been introduced in Gmail. All will not be lost.

There are many aspects of Gmail that still deserve a makeover. And one of them has just been renovated. This is the configuration of the interface. Google has been distributing since the beginning of the week new access to settings menu. The location of this access does not change: it is the wheel at the top right next to the language selector.

Usually, if you want to change an element of the interface, you press the wheel. Two options allow you to change the density and sort tabs of messages from a custom window. There is also a shortcut for themes. If you want to go into detail or change another aspect of the interface, you must enter the full settings menu.

Instantly visible changes

Click now to open a more complete and interactive menu where it is possible to change the theme, the density of the text, the priority of displaying messages (for example, unread first), or even the presence (or not) of a preview window. The interesting thing here is that changes immediately : By clicking on a parameter, you can see its effect and compare better. Note that full access to the settings is still available. Even reassembled.

This new menu will gradually be installed on all Gmail accounts. Distribution started on May 26. However, Google estimates that it will take another 15 days for all Gmail users to upgrade to this new version. Google Suite users are also affected. At home, distribution can take until the end of June.
