Gmail and Inbox: Which Should You Use?

If you’re a Gmail user, you’re most likely using the Gmail app or the standard Mail app on your iPhone or Android device. That said, Google’s Inbox email app is currently available to the public, and here’s the company’s comparison to its Gmail app.

The Inbox app takes the greats of Gmail and adds some features to it, making it the star email app that includes every feature users could ask for, and even some.

Inbox has been around for a while, but is only available to those who receive an invitation. However, Google made the announcement at the Google I/O 2015 keynote last week. Inbox app is now available to everyone.

The application can be downloaded from: iPhone and Android devicesand it’s completely free. However, if you’re not sure if Inbox is worth downloading, here’s how Gmail and Inbox differ and why you might prefer one over the other.

One thing to keep in mind about Inbox is that technically it’s still Gmail in a way, but the UI has been overhauled and everything is presented in a style that Google thinks you’ll like more than just plain Gmail.

When you open the app for the first time and just check it out, you will notice that Inbox collects certain messages together. This is one of the biggest features of the new app.

This means all emails about store promotions will be bundled together. Any purchase will be bundled together. Any travel email will be bundled together. You got the picture. Google thinks this is a great way for users to quickly review their email inbox, especially since you can mark all emails in a particular group as read instead of selecting specific emails one by one.

Another neat feature of Inbox is the ability to snooze an email. So, if you receive an email, but you’re a little too busy to reach it right now, you can delay it for a certain amount of time later and you’ll be reminded again. It’s almost the second time he gets the email, but only this time it arrives in your inbox at a convenient time for you.

Also, one of my favorite features of the Gmail web interface made it mobile for the first time via the Inbox app. You can now undo a sent email on your iPhone or Android device. This is not and has never been possible in the Gmail mobile app, but users can now take advantage of it in the Inbox app.

Inbox has other, smaller features like setting reminders from within the app, pinning emails, prioritizing emails, advanced inbox search, and even creating your own email packages.

The Inbox app is definitely a new take on email and an app that some users will enjoy using, but it’s also not for everyone. The idea of ​​email packages sounds good on paper, but it won’t work for some users.

In fact, opening the Inbox app for the first time and viewing your email inbox can be a bit of a stressful experience. Email no longer appears in the form of a simple list in reverse chronological order, but in organized chaos with added graphics to make everything look good.

However, one of the aspects where I found the Inbox superior was with the swipe gestures. You can “snooze” an email by swiping right or left to mark it as “done”. Swipe gestures are something the regular Gmail app seriously needs and is something that holds it back greatly.

Then again, I can’t help but switch back to Gmail since it’s a familiar user interface and I like to simply view my email without any extra features that I probably won’t use.

Finally Inbox gets the Gmail app and gives him a good dose of steroids. If you’re someone who is fed up with the Gmail app and waiting for something better to come, the Inbox app is probably what you’ve been waiting for.

However, if you’re happy with the Gmail app, there’s no reason to leave it at this point. If it is intact, it does not need to be fixed. Sure, Inbox has some extra features that might make some users more productive, but the radically changed UI is probably not worth the hassle of getting used to having some extra features you may or may not use.
